Seminar 2023

Unfortunately we have had to cancel our in person evening seminar. Instead, we will be providing our seminar as a podcast in the near future so please look out for updates, and we will also be on 2XX radio Friday 13th at 9am.

Endangered Heritage partnered with the National Museum of Australia for the opening event of the National Endangered Skills and Trades Show 2023. The Cost of Losing Knowledge seminar will feature a panel of speakers discussing what our country loses through trade independence supply chains and other issues if rare trades disappear.

Luca Alcaraz

Training Horologist

At 11 years old, Luca demonstrates an astounding passion for horology and is representing the next generation of unique professionals. His choice of aspiration is a challenging one in an environment where his skills and passion is not supported by accessible traineeships or apprenticeships. Despite this, he continues to practice his skills at home and work towards his goals.

From his earliest infancy, always eschewing toys in favour of clocks, pocket watches and an astrolabe, Luca began collecting his treasures from Vinnies at first, progressing to auctions and antique shops.  En route he has acquired an interesting knowledge of horological mechanics, historical development and aesthetic appreciation of styles and values. His interest in horology also extends to campanology, fountains, automatons, automated musical instruments, typewriters and the steam engine in all their mechanical and historical glories. He yearns to learn the workshop machine skills, restoration, and conservation of antique clocks.
